ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The Great Game of Business: The Only Sensible Way To Run A Company by Jack Stack and Bo Burlingham was published in 1992 then revised and updated in 2013. Jack Stack and his colleagues bought over the Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation (SRC), a division on the brink of bankruptcy, and was about to be closed down by International Harvester in 1983. At this time, Stack never had the experience nor adequate knowledge about finance. As soon as he learned, he knew he didn’t want this knowledge to stay within the owners and accountants but to every employee.

BASED ON TRUE EVENTS

John Younger is a Chief Collaborator at RecruiterShare.net and the Chairman of HireMojo, hiring and recruiting automation software for companies to connect with qualified candidates. He was also the former Vice President of Human Resources for Bank of America from 1984 to 1994, where he led technical recruitment for an organization of 16,000 people. John has a passion for addressing social problems and wants to improve organizational performance, values solving multi-generational issues, and a core belief that everyone deserves courtesy and respect. He is known for his companies to be part of the Inc 500 Fastest Growing Companies list. His current focus with RecruiterShare.net combines the sharing economy with the recruiting industry, making getting a top-rated recruiter to fill each job as easy and fast as getting a ride with a ridesharing company.

In the United States today, there are over 6 million open jobs. Roughly one-third of them are only available for three months or longer. Younger’s business model is where companies consult HireMojo to determine the number of supported jobs and how many recruiters they want to use. They can eliminate the retained executive search and highlight the applicant tracking system. With his company HireMojo, they can fill up the openings swiftly with ease. John addressed the profound social issue that positively changed numerous lives by filling the job openings while benefiting the companies.

Younger and Stack share a common characteristic, they both value their employees. Before Jack bought the SRC, the previous owners sold off a non-profitable renews center to the International Harvester Corporation; people were losing their jobs. Stack found a way to save the center with 119 jobs and his own. In the US alone, there are millions of unfilled job openings. John was able to solve the social issue of job openings not being filled due to a lack of resources for both companies and applicants. It’s clear to see that not only did John apply The Great Game of Business principles, additionally, the author too.

The Great Game of Business is great for both startup founders and CEOs who have already set off in their journey. The best thing about this book is that it can apply to different types of businesses. Although, it is still advantageous among small companies compared to well-off ones since they won’t have complications in shifting their management. It’s perfect for leaders who want to take a new revolutionary approach to business management. If your goal is to engage employees and make an unprecedented profit, then this book is for you!

"I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you, for sharing your templates with me. I have 2 new Enterprise Sales Managers (AE’s) staring on Monday, and I have used them to great effect. The playbook will be a living breathing document that will constantly evolve. The template and the headings that you shared, provided a great starting point!"
