Kevin Zicherman MyWiFi NETWORKS Founder’s Favorite Book: THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK by Tim Ferriss

In a world of overscheduled and overtime, most people dream of their retirement goals before reaching 60 years old. Being ready to retire means more than being ready to stop waking up early to their 9-to-5 shift. If it were that simple, most of us would be retired at 25 already. As a general rule, retirees may need about 75% of their pre-retirement income to enjoy a comfortable retirement. Nobody needs to wait for the majority of their lifespan to do the things they enjoy. People don't want to be millionaires; they want to experience the lifestyle of a millionaire. To free up time, travel, buy luxury, and live content and comfortable life. But in reality, everyone wants to make money while working less. For example, an investment banker making $500,000 a year for 80 hours a week is less "powerful" than a New Rich member working 20 hours a week for $40,000, but who has complete freedom over their lives. It's the ability to choose that is our true power. Strive to work with minimum time yet maximum income. We can spend our prime years enjoying the finer things in life.

Tim Ferriss. THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK

Tim Ferriss is one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Business People” and one of Fortune’s “40 under 40.” He is an early-stage technology investor/advisor (Uber, Facebook, Shopify, Duolingo, Alibaba, and 50+ others) and the author of five #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers, including The 4-Hour Workweek and Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers.

The Observer and other media have called Tim “the Oprah of audio” due to The Tim Ferriss Show podcast’s influence, the first business/interview podcast to exceed 100 million downloads. It has now exceeded 600 million downloads. More than 100 media outlets have featured Tim—including The New York Times, The Economist, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, TIME, Forbes, Fortune, CNN, and CBS. Previously a popular guest lecturer at Princeton University from 2003-2013, he discussed entrepreneurship as a tool for world change and ideal lifestyle design. He’s a Guinness record-holder in Tango, a national champion in kickboxing. He runs a business that makes supplements scientifically engineered to increase neural transmission speed and information processing. Tim enjoys bear claws, chocolate croissants, writing “About” pages in the third person, and neglecting italics.

Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich is a cultural colossus. It’s sold more than 1.3 million copies. Translated into 35 languages and spent more than four years on the New York Times bestseller list. Ferriss introduces “The New Rich,” who abandoned the deferred-life plan to create luxury lifestyles here and now, and he argues that everyone can achieve. Tim perceives how he built a US $40K per month business and then outsourced himself out of business and into a life of travel and self-development while still reaping the profits.

The book explains how to break out of the paradigm by significantly reducing work time, freeing ourselves from geographical constraints. The New Rich allows us to live anywhere in the world — and automating revenue enables us to take mini-breaks whenever we desire and fulfill our dreams. Ferris’ goal is to live the American dream reducing work hours while increasing income. He spent years testing various entrepreneurial ventures and working regular jobs. He worked incredibly hard to be able to get to his much-hyped $40,000 a month. Tim believes that retirement is the worst-case scenario insurance. It rests on the assumption that one has to do something they dislike for the ablest years of their life rather than enjoying those years now. To work 4 hours a week, one must change old ways and understand the fundamental aspects of success.

Pick an affordable niche market:

Don't create a product, then go looking for customers. First, find a market and identify the customers, then develop a product for them. To be successful, one must be a member of their target market. This idea makes the process significantly easier.

Interrupting Interruption and the Art of Refusal:

Things that waste your time: all tasks with little or no consequences, such as meetings, phone calls, and emails that are not important. Tim suggests checking emails only twice a day. He uses an auto-response email to respond to immediate emails for him.

Outsourcing Life:

Depending on just one person is always dangerous. It is much easier for English speakers to have virtual assistants and outsource all kinds of tasks, even for individuals, because they have access to abundant, qualified, and inexpensive labor in India and the Philippines

Pareto Principle:

20% of inputs (time, employees, customers) account for 80% of outputs (results, sales, productivity). Find that core, focus on it, and cull the rest. This principle can be applied everywhere, from wealth distribution in society to company profits relative to their products and customers.

QUICK FACTS:

- Zicherman chose an affordable market niche of wifi marketing solutions and completely bootstrapped MyWifiNetworks. With their services, over 50% of customers stay longer at locations that provide free guest wifi.

- Kevin hates emails. His favorite business tool is Slack, a proprietary business communication platform for teams and workplaces used across multiple devices and platforms, equipped with robust features that allow one-on-one with associates but also in groups. It reduces interruptions such as meetings, phone calls, and emails. Thus, it frees up more time for essential work and increases productivity.

- The book taught him how to outsource. Especially this pandemic, online businesses have access to services worldwide with a cheaper option. Since they lost some customers due to COVID, Kevin strengthened their customer support team to help companies.

The 4-Hour Work Week applies to anyone in the online business world. It fits best for those having troubles with time management and business management. The book provides solutions to escape the paradigm prison and leaves a burning desire to work less and enjoy the best years of life.
